Webcam 2.6 adds touch free operation

Breeze Booth (Webcam+Windows) 2.6 aka Webcam Photobooth was released today.

This release adds QR code based touch free operation and sharing, and support for the latest email security protocols

What do I get from Webcam 2.6?

  • Better guest experience
  • Hands free operation
  • Faster, touch free sharing
  • Less waiting in line
  • Contactless data collection
  • Pre registration and data collection support
  • Support for Gmail authentication
  • Support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2

Touch free booth control

Offer your clients totally hands free operation and a better guest experience with contactless data collection, touchless start, and fast hygenic  sharing.

Fast touch free emails and texts

Guests type their email address or cell phone number once into their smart phone,  generating  a unique QR code they use to power the booth and send emails and texts. Fast, simple, hygenic.  Genuine contactless booth operation.

Touch free links to your online gallery

Turning the QR code concept on it’s head, you can also display a QR code on your sharing screen for guests to scan with their smart phone. Use this to direct guests to your online gallery for immediate social sharing.

What is Gmail Authentication and how can it affect me?

Google changed the requirements for authenticating Gmail emails in 2020.  Gmail users now need to  ‘authenticate’ ie approve third party applications which send emails from their gmail accounts.

Adding support for Gmail Authentication to Webcam Photobooth means you can use Gmail to share photos from the booth. More

What is Transport Layer Security and how might it affect me?

You may be familiar with Gmail authentication, but it’s quite likely you never heard of Transport Layer Security (TLS) before.

Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a protocol used to send communications securely over computer networks. Many ISPs send emails using simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP), and SMTP emails use transport layer security (TLS).

A growing number of ISPs require TLS version 1.2, so we have added support for this to Webcam  2.6

By adding support for TLS 1.2 to Webcam 2.6, emails from the booth still work as and when your ISP decides it’s a requirement.

Note TLS 1.2 is also supported in DSLR Remote Pro, Kiosk and Hub. More

Try Webcam Photobooth 2.6 for yourself

Webcam Photobooth 2.6 is a free upgrade for all registered users who purchased Webcam Photobooth after 1st July 2021. Customers with older licenses need to buy an upgrade license to use this release.

Contactless Data Capture

Soon after we released support for contactless booths, Breeze user  Ewan Sou shared a video explaining how to capture guest data and generate  QR codes for contactless operation on your own WordPress website. You can use this approach with both iPad and DSLR/Windows based booths.

Ewan has kindly agreed we can share his very helpful guide with a wider audience through the blog.

Ewan’s work flow creates a QR code containing both email address and guest data. Data is automatically transferred to Breeze photo booth programs Booth (Pad and iPhone), and DSLR Remote Pro when the QR code is scanned. You will also receive an email copy of data guests enter into the form.

This registration form for an imaginary conference followed Ewan’s approach. NB All data your enter into the form is emailed to Breeze.

A huge thank you to Ewan for creating this video and sharing it with the Breeze community.

Kiosk 2.0: Contactless sharing and clipboard

    What’s new in Kiosk 2.0?

We have added a bunch of great new features in the latest release of Kiosk. Guests can collect and share several images using the new clipboard. You are loving Touch free operation in DSLR Remote Pro and Booth (iPad + iPhone), so we have added touch free sharing to Kiosk.

There’s more –  Kiosk 2.0 introduces a QR code based filter you can use so guests see only their own images.

Kiosk 2.0 also adds a new startup screen displayed while Kiosk loads the first images, an improved algorithm for caching thumbnails, support for Gmail’s new authentication requirements, and a few fixes.

    Select and share several images

Guests can select several photos, GIFs or videos and share them in a single email with the new Kiosk clipboard

You can choose the look and position of the clipboard, and set a limit to the number of images guests can share.

Kiosk display with clipboard below main image (Breeze Kiosk 2.0)

    Scan to share

When you run a contactless booth with Breeze DSLR Remote Pro or Breeze Booth (iPad + iPhone), guests can use Kiosk to share photos, GIFs and videos  by scanning  the QR code used to control the photo booth.

Emailing photo by scanning the QR code used to power a contactless booth (Breeze Kiosk 2.0)

Guests can also scan to share  all the clipboard images in a single email:

Scanning a QR code to share the clipboard images in a single email (Breeze Kiosk 2.0)

Guests see just their own images

At large events and those where GDPR or privacy is a concern, guests scan their unique QR code and display just their own images at the kiosk. Learn more about automatic image filtering.

Image filtering using  a unique identifier ssuch as email address (Breeze Kiosk 2.0)

Note:  When filtering images include email address* or another unique identifer in both QR code and DSLR Remote Pro or Booth (iPad + iPhone) image filenames.

    New startup screen

startup.jpg is a new screen displayed while images are being loaded into Kiosk each time it starts.

Usually only the operator sees this screen. To replace it with your own version  add  a jpg called startup.jpg to the Kiosk screen images folder. Like other screens startup.jpg should be the same size  in pixels as the screen on the device.

    Gmail authentication

Google changed the requirements for authenticating Gmail emails this year.

To send Gmail emails from a PC running Kiosk you will need to ‘authenticate’ ie approve third party applications which send emails from their gmail accounts. Go to the Kiosk 2.0 Email Server Settings screen and enter gmail in the Host field. You can find step by step instructions for DSLR Remote Pro here. Authentication for Kiosk works in the same way.

    Try Kiosk 2.0 for yourself

Breeze Kiosk 2.0 is a free upgrade for all registered users who purchased Kiosk after 5th June 2019. Customers with older licenses need to buy an upgrade license to use this release.

Fast & hygenic touch free emails

Guests type their email address once into their smart phone,  generating  a unique QR code they use to power the booth and send emails. Fast, simple, hygenic.  Genuine contactless booth operation.

Generating QR codes for each guest at your events

Point your guests to our webpage to generate their QR codes, or host your own page.

Add your own branding and title to the Breeze QR page to make it your own.  We hosted this page with the  generic domain name contactlessbooth.com to avoid giving away whose software you use.

For total control have guests enter data into your own webpage,  generating a unique QR code they can use to power virtually every aspect of the booth. Feel free to start from this sample PHP script

    Touch free sharing

Improve guest experience, encourage repeated sharing and reduce queuing. Guests enter their email addresses once using their smart phone, and scan their unique QR code each time they want to share an image.

Fantastic for festivals, theme parks and other large venues with multiple booths. Great for groups – everyone quickly scans their details into the sharing screen to receive a copy of the image.

Add a QR code on your sharing screens to direct guests to their images on your microsite (Breeze DSLR Remote Pro 3.15)

    Pre-registration

Pre-register your guests as they wait in line. Each guest receives a unique QR code they use to control your booths and kiosks. Make this a fun and efficient way to collect valuable data.

Use Breeze Booth for iPad registration stations for engaging  surveys and printed badges with the QR code, or design your own webpages to collect the same data and generate the code without guests touching a booth.

Pre-registation with background removal on the Breeze stand at Photo Booth Expo 2020. Visitors used the QR code printed on their badge to power photo booths.

    AI Background removal

AI based Background removal is a great alternative to green screen. The quality is awesome, there’s no cumbersome backdrop, and lighting is much simpler.

Corporate clients will love the ability to shoot against a busy background..

Print layout courtesy of The Photo Booth Guys

We’ve made it much easier to incorporate background removal into DSLR Remote Pro.  At the time of writing, we support third party background removal services from Photobooth DeluxeGadbooth and  removebg.

    Gmail authentication

Google changed the requirements for authenticating Gmail emails this year. As a result many Gmail users found they could no longer send emails from third party apps.

Gmail users now need to  ‘authenticate’ ie approve third party applications which send emails from their gmail accounts.

DSLR Remote Pro (v3.15) adds support for Gmail’s new authentication requirements. Get Gmail emails working again

We will roll Gmail authentication out to Breeze Kiosk, Hub and Booth (Windows + Webcam) aka Webcam Photobooth  in the next release of each product.

    There’s more…

    • Add random backgrounds and overlays to prints, slideshow and burst/boomerang GIFs (without using profiles)
    • Select print, slideshow and burst GIF overlays and backgrounds in repsonse to survey questions (again no profiles)
    • tokens can define initial value of text fields in touchscreen keyboards
